The activities of the Australian/Lithuanian community have most evolved in the field of culture. One of the largest projects are the Australian Lithuanian Days, occurring once every 2 years. The program consists of a Song Festival, a Folk Dance Festival, theatrical performances, art and folk art exhibitions along with various concert performances. Every year, we have a Sports Festival

Scouting
a global phenomenon

Scouting became a wonderful way of gathering our children and teaching the principals of respect for nature, our heritage and for each other.

The Australian/Lithuanianscouting movement bases its principles on the worldwide scouting organisation instituted by Sir Baden Powell in 1908.

The mission of Lithuanian scouting is to provide children of Lithuanian descent a framework in which to build character and grow into responsible citizens through the philosophy of scouting.

With a focus on Lithuanian culture, traditions, and language, using physical as well as intellectual activities, scouting has been an integral part of our youth growing into responsible adults.

About our motherland

Modern day emigres from Lithuania follow career paths and opportunities not always available back in Lithuania. They make up a new style of Australian, bringing with them new cultural connections for our local communities.

Where and what? 

Wedged in between Germany, Poland and Russia, Lithuania has a 99 km coastline along the South-Eastern elbow of the Baltic Sea.

Lithuania’s total land area is 65,200 sq km – not much different to that of Tasmania, yet is populated much more densely: its present population is about 3.2 million.

Lithuanians speak an ancient Indo-European tongue and is a cousin to modern Latvian. Viewed more broadly, Lithuanian is related to Ancient Greek, Latin and Sanskrit which is the oldest known member of the Indo-European family.

ADELAIDĖ 2024

Preliminary  Program

On behalf of the Australian Lithuanian Days 2024 Executive Committee, I have the pleasure in announcing preparations are under way for the 32nd Australian Lithuanian Days Festival to be held in Adelaide from the 27th to the 31st of December, 2024.

The executive committee consists of Dana Valuzis, President, Aleksas Talanskas, Vice President, John Bagusauskas, Treasurer and Edita Meskauskaite, Secretary. In the coming months, event coordinators will be announced and community consultation will occur. The theme for the festival will be Vienybe / Unity.

The 2024 festival will be of particular importance as we reflect on the current model of the festival and pay particular attention to the changing dynamic of the communities around Australia. It will be the first time in Australia’s history we have a Premier of Lithuanian heritage presiding over South Australia, the Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP. Furthermore, our Prime Minister, the Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, attended the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Let us continue to showcase our Lithuanian Heritage and Culture through our Festival and encourage all Lithuanians and Australians to attend because as Rimante Cahill recently addressed the community “To know one’s roots, is to know oneself”. We warmly invite everyone to get involved with the organising of the 2024 Australian Lithuanian Days Festival.
